Imagine walking into a very special sweet-shop: the sort of place that is full of fine quality chocolates with all sorts of exotic fillings behind a glass counter. Every kind of luxury confection is on display from Turkish delight to Italian ice-cream.
The little Shropshire town where I live has just such a shop, Tuesday’s, and this rich, complex cologne was inspired by the amazing, tempting smell inside the shop.
First you get the top-notes of citrus: cedrat, lemon, orange and mandarin with just a hint of spice. Underneath is a rich vein of chocolate and vanilla with opopanax providing a lovely creamy, caramel note.
In between are subtle fruity notes such as blackcurrant and even a spiced rum element from an unusual oil called davana.
If you smell carefully you can also find rose, the sweet jasmine sambac and even a tiny touch of cucumber that helps to keep the whole composition fresh and clean.
This is a long-lasting unisex cologne that despite its heritage does not smell too much like food. It’s the concept of a luxury sweet-shop, rather than its contents . . .
